This woman is flat out gorgeous! And, she never looks like she ages. Luckily, I do have a faint resemblance to her. So I have been told. Similar eyes and hair. I only wish I had her perfectly straight teeth and perhaps the perfect cleavage. Do you know she was 27 when she was in St. Elmo's Fire back in 1985? Yep, that means she is now 50! I'm sorry but this woman does not look 50...what's her secret?

Although she has been in 44 films, I only can think of her from her most acclaimed, especially Sex, Lies and Videotape, Groundhog day and even Multiplicity. I never saw Four Weddings and a Funeral, but occasionally catch a few glimpses when it makes its rounds on TV. It seems that many of her other roles were just not quite as memorable.

What is interesting about her is that her real name isn't even Andie, or something even similar. It's Rosalie...which I find even prettier. Rosalie Anderson, which obviously she shortened to Andie.

Although she is still picking up new roles, her main career is promoting Loreal.

Movie taglines: What do you think?

It has been a long time since I have talked over here at St. Elmo's. Life has been busy. Anywho, a quick chat today...it's funny if you look this movie up on IMBD, they list part of the description as this...

"A Group of friends, just out of college, struggle with adulthood. Their main problem is that they're all self-centered and obnoxious..."

I just don't seem to agree. Yes, they are a group of friends, out of college, struggling with adulthood but I don't think all the cast members can be classified as self-centered and obnoxious. Obnoxious to me is someone who annoys the hell out of you because they think they are so great or they are just in your face. I guess I didn't feel any of the characters were obnoxious. Self centered? Oh yes...Billy is numero uno, then possibly Jules and then Alec. I guess in a sense they all are a bit, although I can't relate that much to Kevin, Leslie or Wendy.

I am also surprised by what they call the "taglines."

"The passion burns deep."
Passion burns deep? Huh, maybe Kevin's passion for Leslie or more obvious, Wendy's passion for Billy.

"The heat this summer is at Saint Elmo's Fire." Hmm...I don't like that they spelled out Saint. For some reason the distinction between St. and Saint is there for me, maybe not for others...I guess I am a bit weird. Just seeing it spelled out reminds me of religion.

"They thought they'd be friends forever, but forever couldn't last." I guess this is a phenomenon that happens everywhere. Not just college, high school, camp...it goes way back. I know I experienced it. You think when you are so close with someone that you will be that way forever. I never though my college roomies and I would be so distant today, it's only been 10 years but I rarely get together with them. Hard to believe when we were in college, we were inseparable. That's one reason I love that Pink song, "Who Knew."

"You can always count on your friends. Don't ever let the fire go out." This is a nice one, I think I like this the best as a synoposis for the movie. Not only relating to the part when Jules locks herself in her apartment and her friends help her out but all throughout. Either Alec trying to help Billy get a job or Leslie and Jules trying to get Wendy over Billy, or Jules trying to introduce Kevin to a girl, insinuating his lack of is due to being gay....it really is the good feeling you get about that movie, friends helping other friends get over tough spots in their life.

What is your favorite tagline for the movie?

If life were that simple

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; I have to say, Andrew was always my favorite. Yes, his sensitivity was quite endearing and something about those blue eyes. If I had to make a second choice, Judd would be my man. Love the skin tone. That Ally Sheedy...damn lucky girl for getting to hook up with both. Rob would pull in 3rd and Emilio, although sexy-hot in this pic above would be last. Such a hard choice though because they are all HOT! I wonder though if I had met them in person who would win my heart.

How about you? Give me your hottie order of the men of St. Elmos'.

Dreams and transitions

I am not exactly sure why St. Elmo's Fire has such special meaning to me. I guess it would be because I think the movie hits the nail on the head as far as how transitions in life go. Starting from when I was real little, I dreamt about being older.

I remember being 10 and daydreaming about having the coolest car and wearing the most stylish outfits to work. I thought for sure I would be this big wig professional that listened to Mozart, drank martinis and had my nails done twice a week. Well, let's just say that is not exactly how it turned out. Not that my life is bad, I love my life. And I am not that person, I don't even want to be that person now.

Now I dream that my kids will grow up to be these amazing, polite, smart, happy kids and that someday I will travel. It is like drama, our dreams are always more interesting than our actual lives. We need them though....we need them to make our lives entertaining and interesting.

St. Elmo's Fire depicts people trying to live up to their expectations of what they "should" be doing and having a "drama moment." It's like they need to do something dramatic to make that transition. Whether they be getting ready to get married and having flings on the side or buying everything in sight just because they got a great job.

It's like panicking at that last moment before you get what you've always wanted. Now that you have it, you do something bad to almost sabotage it. Why do we do this? No freakin clue. Have you ever read about something that they found out was bad and thought, "crap I do that once in a while, I'm not doing it anymore" and then the very next thing you know, your doing it way more than before? It's like when you put your foot down that you are going to start a diet and then suddenly one day in to your diet you pig out like a banchee?

It's true in life though that we all need a little drama sometimes. Maybe just doing something crazy is just what you need to settle down.

The song, the moments

We're all going through this...

Welcome to St. Elmo's Fire.

Billy: "You know what it is?

It's St. Elmo's Fire.

Electric flashes of light that appear in dark skies out of nowhere. Sailors would guide entire journeys by it, but the joke was on them... there was no fire. There wasn't even a St. Elmo. They made it up.
